Reactions and hogging moment for a beam with an overhang carrying an end point load.
The overhang acts as a lever about support B: it amplifies RB above the applied load and can literally lift the beam off support A. The moment is entirely hogging (tension on top) over the support — the opposite of a simple span — and the section over B is the critical one.
Span A–B = 4 m with a 1.5 m overhang and P = 10 kN at the tip: RB = 10·5.5/4 = 13.75 kN, RA = 10 − 13.75 = −3.75 kN (uplift!), MB = −15 kN·m hogging over support B.
